What to pack!

It can be a bit tricky knowing what to pack for the Arctic! What you need depends on what you are going to be doing, the time of year and, of course, the temperature.

Spending a few hours with the dogs is very different from heading out on an Overnight Adventure, so we have put together a few things to help you prepare.

For more detailed advice about what to wear and how to stay warm in Arctic temperatures, have a look at our How to Dress guide.

The Basics

Even though we have Arctic winter clothing available if needed, we highly recommend arriving well prepared and dressed for the weather. Good layers make a huge difference to how comfortable you will be outside.

Base & Mid Layers

  • Thermal underwear — preferably wool or merino wool
  • Fleece or wool mid-layer
  • Warm winter trousers & jacket
  • Wool socks — NO COTTON!

Need Some Extra Warmth?

We have Arctic overalls, warm winter boots, hats and mittens available if needed.

OVERNIGHT ADVENTURE

Packing for the Overnight Adventure

Heading out with your own team of dogs and spending the night at our wilderness lodge means you will need to bring a few extra things with you.

Here's what we recommend packing:

What You Need to Bring:

  • Sleeping bag liner — ESSENTIAL
  • Wool socks — minimum 3 pairs
  • Balaclava
  • 2 beanies / neck gaiters
  • Thin gloves that you can actually work with, preferably waterproof or water-resistant
  • Warm waterproof shoes
  • Slippers or indoor shoes for the lodge
  • Headlamp
  • Personal toiletries
  • Any medication or personal necessities you need overnight

DON'T FORGET YOUR SLEEPING BAG LINER!

A sleeping bag liner is essential if you are using one of our sleeping bags.

For hygiene reasons, everyone using our sleeping bags must use a liner inside them. Please bring your own. If you don't have one, you will need to purchase one from us before the tour (300 kr).

Need Wool Socks?

Cotton socks are the worst socks to wear in minus temperatures!

If you don't have suitable wool socks, we sell socks with 80% wool content for 140 SEK.

Please let us know beforehand so we can make sure we have your size in stock.

Need a Headlamp?

There is no electricity at our wilderness lodge, so you will need a headlamp.

If you don't have your own, you can rent one from us for 300 SEK.

Please let us know in advance if you need one.

Hands, Head & Feet

  • Warm hat that covers your ears
  • Neck gaiter, buff or balaclava
  • Warm gloves or mittens
  • Suitable winter footwear

A Few Tips From Us

Don't overpack!

When it comes to staying warm, more layers aren't always better. What keeps you warm is the air trapped between the layers, so loose-fitting clothes and socks are much better than squeezing yourself into lots of tight layers.

Big bulky ski gloves aren't very practical when you need to harness the dogs and clip them onto the lines, so make sure you also bring a pair of thinner gloves that you can actually work with.

P.S. For the Overnight Adventure, we recommend bringing a waterproof duffel bag instead of a suitcase!
