Family Husky Tour
We offer various types of family husky tours, but all have one thing in common... the focus is on the kids! We have our regular sit back and relax tour for private families, or we have a special overnight tour for just your family as well. Below you can read a little about the overnight tour for families.
You drive your own team of 3 or 4 dogs, depending on the weight and strength of the person. We will mush around max 27kms* on a varied home groomed trail to our wilderness lodge. Even the kids get to have their own team of dogs if they want to! Alternatively it might be possible to share a sled between one parent and one child. Nevertheless, we do try to encourage that each child drives their own team. (this does depend a little on their age, their weight and their ability to use the brake).
*The distance depends a little on the temperature and on the family....we can shorten the distance if its very cold.
What will we do on the tour?
After instructions and getting well dressed, we head off into the wilderness. Upon arrival we take care of our dogs first. We unharness them and give them all a house. We give the dogs a snack and then settle into the lodge. Before we enjoy our own home cooked meal we feed the dogs. The kids can watch or help together with the adults.
After having fed the dogs, we enjoy our own dinner by grilling sausages and making bread on a stick just outside the lodge. But first we have to make the fire... from sticks in the area.(we can teach the kids how to make a fire) We also have time to play in the snow and build a snowman if the kids want to.
The following morning we harness our own dogs and get the team ready to mush back to the kennel. We cover approx 18 kms. At the kennel we give the dogs a snack, unharness them and say our goodbyes. We take you back to Kiruna/Icehotel.
The family tour ends around 12:00
